Genus Spathilepia
Genus Spathilepia is a small genus of Neotropical skipper butterflies in the family Hesperiidae, distributed from Mexico and Central America into parts of South America. These butterflies are generally small to medium-sized, with dark brown wings marked by pale, yellowish, or translucent spots and streaks that help distinguish them from related grass skippers. Like other members of the family, they possess robust bodies, hooked antennae, and a rapid, darting flight. Spathilepia species are most commonly encountered in tropical dry forests, woodland edges, grassy clearings, and secondary growth habitats, where adults visit flowers for nectar and frequently perch on low vegetation.
