The superfamily Pyrrhocoroidea is a group of terrestrial true bugs within the infraorder Pentatomomorpha and the suborder Heteroptera. Members of this superfamily are widely distributed throughout tropical, subtropical, and temperate regions of the world and are best known for their often striking red, orange, black, or yellow coloration. Pyrrhocoroids are primarily plant feeders, using their piercing-sucking mouthparts to feed on seeds, fruits, stems, and other plant tissues. The superfamily contains two principal families, Pyrrhocoridae and Largidae. Many species are gregarious and may occur in large aggregations on host plants or on the ground.
