The native range of this species is Mexico to Colombia, Cuba, French Guiana. It grows primarily in the wet tropical biome. It is used as a medicine and has environmental uses. Clusters of deep red tubular blooms are borne in whorls around the arching green stems. Dainty deep green foliage. Attracts Butterflies and Hummingbirds.
