This species is especially common in the cape region of Baja California, and the coastal lowlands of western Mexico. Members of the genus, commonly known as wrightworts, are mainly small shrubs bearing inflorescences of lily-like flowers.
Description
• Carlowrightia arizonica, commonly known as Arizona carlowrightia, is a small flowering herb in the acanthus family (Acanthaceae). It has slender stems and small leaves, with delicate white flowers featuring distinctive purple markings and yellow colouring near the throat. The petals spread into an irregular shape, giving the flowers an orchid-like appearance.
Range
• Carlowrightia arizonica occurs in Mexico, including Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, and the surrounding area, as well as parts of the southwestern United States.
Habitat
• This small herb grows in warm environments, including dry scrub, open woodland, rocky ground, and disturbed areas. Its delicate flowers can be easy to overlook among surrounding vegetation, and the plant is often most noticeable when in bloom.
