Mermaid's Fan Seaweeds (Genus Padina)
Genus Padina is a distinctive group of brown algae within the family Dictyotaceae, commonly found in tropical and warm-temperate coastal waters around the world. Species of Padina are easily recognized by their thin, fan-shaped or scroll-like blades that often display concentric bands and may be partially calcified with deposits of calcium carbonate on their surfaces. These algae typically grow on rocks, coral rubble, and other hard substrates in shallow marine environments, including reefs, lagoons, and sheltered bays.
