The Mottled Spurge (Euphorbia lactea) is an intriguing, drought-tolerant plant in the family Euphorbiaceae. Often cultivated as an ornamental plant, it is appreciated for its unusual, cactus-like form and variegated patterns.

Description
• Euphorbia lactea, commonly known as mottled spurge or milk stripe euphorbia, is a succulent shrub in the spurge family (Euphorbiaceae). It has upright, branching, cactus-like stems with three or four angled ribs, wavy margins, and small paired spines along the ridges. The stems are usually green with pale mottling, although some cultivated forms have prominent white or pink colouring. Tiny leaves may appear briefly on new growth before falling. The plant produces a milky latex when damaged that can cause skin irritation and serious eye injury.
Range
• Euphorbia lactea is native to tropical Asia, particularly India and neighbouring regions. It is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant in warm climates and is sometimes planted in gardens and landscapes in Mexico. It is cultivated in Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, and the surrounding area.
Habitat
• Mottled spurge grows in warm, sunny environments and is commonly found in ornamental gardens, landscaped areas, and containers. It favours well-drained soil and tolerates heat and dry conditions once established. It is sensitive to frost and prolonged waterlogging, making it best suited to tropical and subtropical climates.
