Description

• Centrosema plumieri is a perennial climbing or trailing vine in the legume family (Fabaceae), commonly associated with the butterfly pea group. It has slender stems, compound leaves with three leaflets, and distinctive pea-shaped flowers that are usually violet to purple, sometimes with paler markings. Its fruit is an elongated, flattened pod that splits open when mature to release the seeds. Like other legumes, it can form associations with nitrogen-fixing bacteria in the soil.

Range

• Centrosema plumieri is native to tropical America, including Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and parts of South America. It is native to Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, and the surrounding area.

Habitat

• This vine grows in tropical grasslands, open woodland, scrub, forest edges, and disturbed areas. It thrives in warm conditions and can grow in sunny or partly shaded sites, spreading along the ground or climbing through nearby vegetation.
