Charaxinae is a subfamily of brush-footed butterflies within the family Nymphalidae, comprising a diverse group commonly known as the rajahs, emperors, leafwings, and charaxine butterflies. Members of this subfamily are generally medium- to large-sized butterflies characterized by strong, rapid flight, robust bodies, and often angular or tailed wings. They inhabit forests, woodlands, savannas, and forest edges. Many charaxines display cryptic undersides that closely resemble dead leaves, providing excellent camouflage when at rest.
