Family Lycidae comprises the net-winged beetles, a distinctive family of soft-bodied beetles in the order Coleoptera containing more than 4,000 described species worldwide. These beetles are named for the characteristic network of raised ridges and veins on their wing covers, which gives them a reticulated or net-like appearance. Lycids are typically slender to moderately broad beetles, often displaying bright warning colors such as red, orange, yellow, and black. Many species participate in mimicry complexes, sharing similar color patterns with other chemically protected insects to deter predators.
