Order Alismatales is a diverse order of flowering plants (angiosperms) that includes many aquatic, marsh, and wetland species, as well as several familiar terrestrial ornamentals. Comprising more than 4,500 species in approximately 14 families, Alismatales are distributed worldwide, with their greatest diversity in freshwater wetlands, coastal habitats, tropical forests, and marine environments. Members of the order exhibit remarkable ecological diversity, ranging from fully submerged freshwater plants and marine seagrasses to emergent marsh plants and terrestrial aroids.
