The genus Phengodes, commonly known as glowworm beetles, belongs to the family Phengodidae. This genus is remarkable for its bioluminescent capabilities, with the females and larvae emitting light. Unlike males, which are typical flying beetles, females remain larviform throughout their lives (a condition called neoteny), retaining larval characteristics even as adults.
