Diet

• Adults and nymphs: Plant-feeding, using their piercing-sucking mouthparts to extract fluids from stems, leaves and other plant tissues.

• Its feeding appears to be primarily associated with woody legumes and related vegetation rather than being restricted to a single plant species.

Range

• Savius jurgiosus belongs to the family Coreidae, subfamily Coreinae, tribe Discogastrini, and genus Savius.

• Around Zihua, it would likely be considered occasional to locally common, particularly where mesquite, huizache and other suitable woody vegetation occurs.

Habitat

• Associated with tropical dry forest, deciduous woodland, thorn scrub, savanna-like vegetation and other habitats containing suitable woody host plants.

• Its association with Acacia and Prosopis makes relatively dry, open woodland particularly suitable habitat.

• Around Zihua, it could occur in tropical deciduous forest, thorn scrub, dry hillsides, forest edges, roadsides and disturbed areas with shrubs and small trees.

• Its green colouration provides excellent camouflage among foliage, making adults surprisingly easy to overlook.

Size

• Adults are approximately 13–14 mm long.

• The body is relatively broad and elongate, typical of a leaf-footed bug, with long antennae and legs.

• Adults are predominantly bright green, while the antennae and tarsi are dull yellowish-brown and the membranous portion of the forewings is dark grey.
