The superfamily Coreoidea is a diverse group of terrestrial true bugs within the suborder Heteroptera. Members of this superfamily are distributed worldwide but are especially abundant in tropical and subtropical regions. Coreoids are generally medium- to large-sized insects with elongated bodies, well-developed antennae, and piercing-sucking mouthparts adapted for feeding on plant juices. Many species are readily recognized by the expanded, leaf-like hind legs, although this feature is not present in all species.
