GENUS SYNARGIS
-
Genus Synargis
Genus Synargis is a diverse genus of metalmark butterflies in the family Riodinidae, found throughout the Neotropical region from Mexico and Central America to South America. These small to medium-sized butterflies are highly variable in appearance, displaying combinations of brown, orange, yellow, black, white, and metallic markings that often provide camouflage or mimicry of other butterfly species. Many Synargis inhabit forest understories, woodland edges, and tropical dry forests, where adults typically fly close to the ground and visit flowers, decaying fruit, sap flows, and damp soil for nutrients.
