​Genus Heraclides is a genus of large and impressive swallowtail butterflies in the subfamily Papilioninae of the family Papilionidae, distributed throughout the Americas from southern Canada and the United States through Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. Formerly included within the broad genus Papilio, Heraclides is now recognized as a distinct New World lineage of swallowtails. These butterflies are characterized by their large size, powerful flight, and striking patterns of black, yellow, cream, and brown markings, often with well-developed hindwing tails.
