The Straggler Daisy is a flowering plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is typically found in sandy soils in coastal regions, but can also be found in open woodlands and grasslands. Description
• Calyptocarpus vialis, commonly known as straggler daisy or lawnflower, is a low-growing, spreading herb in the sunflower family (Asteraceae). It has slender, branching stems and opposite, toothed leaves. Its small, daisy-like flower heads have yellow ray florets surrounding a yellow central disc. The plant spreads along the ground and can form a low mat, often growing between grasses or in lawns and other disturbed areas.
Range
• Calyptocarpus vialis is native to parts of the southern United States, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. It has also become established in other warm regions. It is native to Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, and the surrounding area.
Habitat
• This adaptable herb grows in sunny to partly shaded places, including lawns, footpaths, roadsides, gardens, open woodland, and disturbed ground. It tolerates trampling and regular mowing and can thrive in a range of soil conditions, particularly in warm climates where moisture is available.
