Order Asterales is one of the largest and most successful orders of flowering plants (angiosperms), comprising more than 35,000 species distributed across every continent except Antarctica. Members include herbs, shrubs, vines, trees, and a few aquatic plants that occupy an enormous range of habitats, from deserts and grasslands to forests, wetlands, alpine tundra, and coastal regions. Members of Asterales are among the world's most important nectar and pollen sources for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, while also providing seeds and foliage for birds and mammals.
