Fourspike heliotrope (Euploca procumbens) is found in Central America, South America, and several Caribbean islands. Common in dry disturbed habitats. It is reportedly used to treat unspecified medicinal disorders. The leaves and stem grow tiny white hairs.
Description
• Euploca procumbens, is a low-growing annual herb in the borage family (Boraginaceae). It has spreading or prostrate stems and small, alternate, oval to oblong leaves, often covered with fine hairs. Its tiny white flowers grow in coiled or curved clusters characteristic of the genus. The flowers develop into small fruits that separate into nutlet-like segments when mature.
Range
• Euploca procumbens is native to the Americas, including Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and parts of South America. It occurs in tropical and subtropical regions and is adapted to warm climates. It is native to Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, and the surrounding area.
Habitat
• This low-growing herb occurs in open, sunny habitats, including coastal areas, sandy or rocky ground, dry grasslands, roadsides, and disturbed sites. It can tolerate relatively dry conditions and often grows close to the ground in sparse vegetation. Its growth and flowering are influenced by seasonal rainfall and local soil moisture.
