​The family Miridae, commonly known as the plant bugs, is the largest family of true bugs within the suborder Heteroptera. Mirids are generally small to medium-sized insects with soft-bodied, elongated forms and a characteristic wedge-shaped section near the tip of the forewing known as the cuneus, a feature that helps distinguish them from other true bugs. They occupy an enormous variety of habitats, including forests, grasslands, wetlands, agricultural fields, gardens, and deserts. Most species feed on plant sap, flowers, seeds, fruits, or developing shoots using their piercing-sucking mouthparts.
