Infraorder Staphyliniformia is a major lineage of beetles within the order Coleoptera, comprising a diverse array of families including rove beetles (Staphylinidae), carrion beetles (Silphidae), water scavenger beetles (Hydrophilidae), and several related groups. Members of this infraorder occupy an extraordinary range of habitats, including forests, grasslands, wetlands, freshwater environments, caves, coastal zones, and decomposing organic matter. They exhibit considerable diversity in form and behavioru, but many are associated with decaying plant and animal material, fungi, soil, leaf litter, or aquatic habitats.
