Description
• Cascabela ovata is a flowering shrub or small tree in the dogbane family (Apocynaceae). It has simple, leathery leaves arranged alternately or in clusters along the branches, and produces showy, yellow, funnel-shaped flowers. Its fruit consists of paired or rounded structures that contain seeds. Like other members of the family, the plant produces milky latex that can be toxic if ingested, so it should not be eaten or handled carelessly.
Range
• Cascabela ovata is native to Mexico and occurs in tropical regions, including Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, and the surrounding area.
Habitat
• This species grows in tropical dry forest, thorn scrub, woodland edges, and other warm, seasonally dry environments. It is adapted to sunny conditions and periods of limited rainfall and can grow in rocky or well-drained soils. Its bright yellow flowers attract insect pollinators.
