Diet

• Adults: Primarily herbivorous, feeding on leaves, flowers and tender plant tissues. Host plants vary among species.

• Larvae: Feed on plant tissues, with some species developing on roots or other parts of their host plants.

• The biology of individual Lamprosoma species is not equally well documented.

Range

• Lamprosoma is a predominantly Neotropical genus of leaf beetles, distributed from Mexico through Central America and into South America.

• Mexico supports several species, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions, including Guerrero and the Zihuatanejo area, where suitable habitat occurs.

• Lamprosoma beetles are occasional sightings around Zihuatanejo, partly because of their small size and inconspicuous appearance.

Habitat

• Found in tropical dry forest, tropical rainforest, tropical woodland, forest edges, scrub, secondary vegetation and agricultural areas.

• Adults are generally found on foliage and young vegetation.

• Larval habitats vary among species and may include soil, roots or host-plant tissues.

Size

• Adult length: approximately 2–6 mm (0.08–0.24 in).

• Body usually small, rounded and strongly convex, often resembling a tiny polished dome.

• Many species have attractive metallic green, blue, bronze, copper or reddish coloration.
