Subfamily Biblidinae is a subfamily of brush-footed butterflies within the family Nymphalidae, consisting of a diverse group of predominantly Neotropical species found from the southern United States through Central and South America. Members of Biblidinae are generally medium-sized butterflies noted for their striking wing patterns, which often feature bold combinations of black, orange, red, blue, or white markings. Many species inhabit tropical and subtropical forests, forest edges, secondary growth, and riverine habitats, where they are active, fast-flying insects.
