Diet

• Larvae: Feed within stems, roots, seeds, fruits, flowers, and other plant tissues, depending on the species. Many develop inside woody or herbaceous stems.

• Adults: Feed on leaves, stems, buds, flowers, fruits, and seeds of their host plants.

• Some species are associated with palms, grasses, legumes, and other economically important plants.

Range

• The subfamily Conoderinae is distributed worldwide, with particularly high diversity in tropical and subtropical regions.

• Numerous genera and species occur throughout Mexico, including the Pacific coast and Guerrero.

• The Neotropics contain a particularly rich diversity of conoderine weevils.

Habitat

• Found in tropical dry forests, tropical rainforests, woodland edges, secondary forests, grasslands, agricultural fields, orchards, and gardens.

• Adults occur on foliage, stems, flowers, fruits, and seed pods, while larvae are concealed within plant tissues.

• Some species are associated with dead or dying vegetation, while others attack living plants.

Size

• Adult length: approximately 3–15 mm (0.12–0.6 in), depending on species.

• Body often elongate and cylindrical, with a distinct weevil-like rostrum and elbowed antennae.
