Genus Phoebis is a genus of large, brightly colored sulphur butterflies in the subfamily Coliadinae of the family Pieridae, distributed throughout the Americas from the southern United States and Mexico to South America and the Caribbean. Commonly known as the giant sulphurs, these butterflies are characterized by their large size, strong and swift flight, and brilliant yellow, orange, golden, or occasionally white coloration. Many species undertake seasonal migrations and can be seen flying high above open landscapes. Their undersides often resemble leaves, providing excellent camouflage when at rest. Adults inhabit tropical dry forests, woodland edges, gardens, roadsides, coastal habitats, and agricultural areas, where they visit a wide variety of flowers for nectar.
