Family Scarabaeidae comprises the scarab beetles, one of the largest and most diverse families of beetles in the order Coleoptera, with more than 35,000 described species worldwide. Scarab beetles occur in nearly every terrestrial habitat, from tropical rainforests and grasslands to deserts and agricultural landscapes. Members of this family are typically robust, oval-bodied beetles with distinctive lamellate antennae whose terminal segments can be expanded into fan-like clubs used for detecting odors. Scarabaeidae includes an extraordinary variety of forms and lifestyles, ranging from dung beetles and flower chafers to rhinoceros beetles and June beetles.
