Seed Bugs of Zihuatanejo

SUPERFAMILY LYGAEOIDEA

The superfamily Lygaeoidea is a large and diverse group of terrestrial true bugs. Members of this superfamily are distributed worldwide and are especially abundant in grasslands, forests, shrublands, agricultural fields, and other terrestrial habitats. Commonly known as the seed bugs and allies, many species feed primarily on seeds, fruits, and other plant tissues using their piercing-sucking mouthparts, although some are scavengers or predators. Lygaeoids are typically small to medium-sized insects with elongated oval bodies and often display striking patterns of red, orange, black, white, or brown coloration.
