Subfamily Cryptocephalinae is a large and diverse group of leaf beetles within the family Chrysomelidae. Commonly known as case-bearing leaf beetles, members of this subfamily are found worldwide and are especially diverse in temperate and tropical regions. Adults are typically small to medium-sized, compact, and often brightly colored, with a rounded or cylindrical body shape and a tendency to tuck their head beneath the pronotum, giving many species a "hidden-headed" appearance. Most adults feed on the leaves, flowers, or stems of a wide variety of plants.
