Subfamily Cryptorhynchinae comprises the hidden-snout weevils, a large and diverse group within the family Curculionidae. With thousands of species distributed worldwide, especially in tropical and subtropical regions, cryptorhynchines are among the most specialized and well-camouflaged weevils. Their common name derives from their ability to tuck the rostrum (snout) into a groove on the underside of the body, effectively concealing it when at rest. Most species have compact, robust bodies covered with scales, tubercles, ridges, or mottled patterns that closely resemble bark, lichens, moss, twigs, or other natural surfaces, making them extremely difficult to detect.
