Superfamily Curculionoidea comprises the weevils and snout beetles, one of the largest and most diverse groups of animals on Earth. This superfamily includes more than 60,000 described species, with estimates suggesting that many more remain undiscovered. Curculionoids are most easily recognized by their elongated snout, or rostrum, which bears the mouthparts at its tip and is often used for feeding and egg-laying. Members of the group vary greatly in size, shape, and coloration, but most are herbivorous and closely associated with plants.
