TRIBE STERNECHINI
Tribe Sternechini is a tribe of true weevils within the subfamily Molytinae of the family Curculionidae. The tribe is found primarily in the Neotropical region, including Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and especially South America, where it reaches its greatest diversity. Members of Sternechini are generally medium- to large-sized weevils with robust bodies, a well-developed rostrum, and surfaces often ornamented with scales, hairs, ridges, or tubercles. Their coloration is usually cryptic, consisting of shades of brown, grey, black, or mottled patterns that help them blend into bark, stems, and vegetation.
