Weevils of Zihuatanejo

TRIBE CRYPTORINCHINI

Tribe Cryptorhynchini is a major tribe of the hidden-snout weevils within the subfamily Cryptorhynchinae of the family Curculionidae. Members of this tribe are distributed worldwide but are especially diverse in tropical and subtropical forests. They are named for their ability to conceal the rostrum (snout) in a groove on the underside of the body when at rest, giving them a compact, armored appearance. Most species are small to medium-sized and possess rough, sculptured bodies covered with scales, hairs, tubercles, or ridges that closely resemble bark, lichens, mosses, twigs, or dead plant material, providing exceptional camouflage.
